Getting there Davao
Davao is easily reached by air, land or sea. Next to Manila and Cebu, Davao is the third most popular city for tourism in the Philippines. Listed below are the different means of transportation to get to Davao.
The Davao International Airport which is also known as Francisco Bangoy International Airport is considered to be the busiest airport in the southern Philippines handling both domestic and international flights. By plane, Davao is one hour and 30 minutes away from Manila and only 45 minutes if you're coming from either Cebu City, Zamboanga City or Cagayan de Oro.
Daily domestic airlines that fly from Manila to Davao and vice versa are provided by Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air, Airphil Express and Airasia. The same airlines are also flying to Cebu, Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro from Davao. Check the airline website for daily flight schedule and ticket prices. For international flights, Bourag Indonesia Airlines has weekly flight schedules to Davao from Hongkong and Manado - Indonesia with a short stopover at Cebu. From the airport you can best take an airport taxi to Davao Center. The trip to the center takes about 30 minutes and should cost no more than 200 PHP.
This mode of transportation is more applicable and best advised for travelers who are already within the Mindanao region. Air-conditioned and non-aircondtioned buses are the best and cheapest way to get to Davao city if you're coming from major Mindanao cities like Cagayan, Zamboanga, Bukidnon and Iligan. Philtranco Bus Lines offers trips going to Davao from these cities but be prepared for a very long travel time.
Different boat sizes can be seen arriving at the Davao Gulf. These boats have different routes to and from the islands all over the country. Be carefull with smaller boats, these are only advised for those who are travelling to nearby islands in Davao like Samal Island.
If you're coming from Manila or Cebu and heading to Davao by sea, 2Go Travel has regular schedules to Cagayan de Oro, from where you can take a bus to Davao. With the current air ticket prices, this might however not be the cheapest option and certainly not the quickest.
