Philippines offers more than just beaches, mountains, volcanoes and caves. Golfing is slowly gaining popularity in the Philippines and you can find some golf courses located within Manila or nearby provinces like Laguna and Baguio and also within the provinces in Visayas like Cebu and Boracay.
Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio - This golf course is part of the Camp John Hay resort in Baguio and is designed by Golden Bear International awardee Jack Nicklaus. It is also believed that this in the only golf course in The Philippines to have bentgrass greens. Camp John Hay Golf Club is located in Loakan Road in Baguio and has the best scenery which is surrounded by pine trees and clear serene lakes. Fairways and Bluewater Golf & Country Club - Boracay - This golf course is famous for its par 72 golf course which is designed by Graham Marsh. It is part of the relatively new Fairways and Bluewater Boracay which is a 5-star resort hotel located within the popular island. This golf course offers 18 holes and provides a new experience with every hole. Facilities include a modern clubhouse, buccaneer grill, swashbuckler's bar and tee house.
Apo Golf & Country Club - Stunning views from Mount Apo can be seen from various points in this golf course located in Barangay Bago in Davao. It is 30 minutes away from the southern part of Davao City proper. The putting greens are in good condition, big and flat, and with a maintained sandtrap. There are a few mahogany and coconut trees to spice up the challenge a bit and also a lot of water hazards. Canlubang Golf and Country Club - Better look out for occasional winds in this golf course which is the largest in the Philippines. This exclusive golf course which is located in Canlubang, Laguna has 36 holes and is designed by Robert Trent Jr. The holes consist of wide fairways which are lined with coconut trees and a number of man-made lakes. It is considered one of the most challenging golf courses in Asia with a layout covering 6,929 yards. Facilities in this golf course include changing rooms for men and women, driving range, putting greens, tee houses, restaurant and a bar.
Alta Vista Golf & Country Club - This golf course is located in Pardo Hills, Cebu City which is about 10 kilometers from downtown Cebu by taxi. Alta Vista's golf course provides a short yet challenging mountain course of 6,100 yards. Here you can have great views of Mactan Island and the bay. It is popular with golfers for its rolling terrain, narrow fairways, water hazards and strong winds. Facilities include a swimming pool, changing rooms for men and women, sports shop, putting green, driving range, function room, children's playground, several bars and a restaurant.
Cebu Country Club - Also located in Cebu but in Banilad City which is approximately 20 minutes away from Mactan International Airport is Cebu Country Club. This golf course is a private members-only club but is open to guests and tourists as well. It is famous for its 18-hole championship golf course which was established in 1928. It has several trees, winding fairways and sand traps that are furnished with ground coral rock. Facilities in the golf course include a clubhouse, tee houses, changing rooms for men and women, swimming pool, bowling alley, tennis court, badminton court, restaurant and a bar.
Villamor Golf Club - This golf course is located just to the south of Makati City, specifically in Villamor Airbase in Pasay City. It is a 60-hectare, 18-hole par 72 course with a yardage total of 7.010. The course is fairly flat but proves to have lots of challenge because of the variety of trees which lines the fairways aside from elevated greens, water hazards and strong occasional winds. Facilities in the golf club includes a driving range, practice putting greens, golfer's lounge, tee house, swimming pool, changing rooms for men and women, massage facilities, restaurant and a coffee shop.
Rancho Palos Verdes - Located in Buhangin District in Davao City, this all-weather golf course has a variety of challenges and is designed by well-known golf course architect Andy Dye. While golfing, you may be able to view a crocodile lagoon, bird sanctuary and the scenic Talomo. This golf course which was built in harmony with nature has just about everything from undulating fairways, ravines, water hazards, pot bunkers and elevation changes. The fairways are made of Bermuda grass while the greens with close-cut Tifdwarf grass. Facilities in the golf course include a practice putting greens, driving range, tee house, lounge, jacuzzi, changing rooms for men and women, clubhouse, bar and a restaurant.
Club Intramuros in Manila - Built in 1907 by the Americans within Intramuros in Manila, this golf course is said to be the oldest in the Philippines. It is a relatively short golf course with only an 18 hole and par 66 but proves to have a lot of challenges that will test a golfer's accuracy. Almost every hole includes either water hazards, out-of-bounds or both. This golf course can easily be found since it's just across the Manila City Hall and also open at night. Facilities include a driving range, practice putting green, changing rooms for men and women, banquet hall, equipment rental, restaurant and a piano bar.
Caliraya Springs Golf & Country Club - This golf course is located in Cavinti, Laguna which is approximately 85 kilometers south of Manila and is designed by Arnold Palmer. It is an 18 hole championship golf course and is the only lake and mountainside golf and country club in the Philippines. The course has rolling terrain and some water hazards that can be truly challenging. This golf course is recommended for high handicappers and seasoned golfers. Facilities include a driving range, practice putting green, tee houses, pro shop, function room, sauna , jacuzzi, changing rooms for men and women, lounge, three dining areas and a clubhouse.
